Defenders of Wildlife Pushing to Protect Wolves in Wyoming

Sunday, August 19th, 2012

Last week the Defenders of Wildlife announced on their blog that they have 62,000 signatures out of the 100,000 they’re trying to get for their wolf petition.

Their goal with this petition is to stop the hunting of wolves in Wyoming. The wolf hunt in Wyoming will start this coming October.

They’re going to be sending their petition to Obama in hopes he’ll step in and stop this upcoming wolf hunt.

Let’s hope Washington keeps their nose out of this. Let the states manage their own wildlife, not some politician on the other side of the country. We wish all of the hunters in Wyoming with a wolf tag, good hunting this season. We hope every single one of you fills your wolf tag and helps protect our big game herds from getting wiped out. – Hunters Against PETA

Hunters, Take Action To Stop Wolves From Being Introduced Into Colorado

Friday, January 27th, 2012

The Associated Press released an article yesterday that talks about how U.S. Fish and Wildlife officials (feds) are considering the release of wolves into the Baca National Forest Refuge in Colorado.

Their reasoning for this is that there are too many elk in this particular area. Introducing the Non-Native Canadian Gray Wolf is one of their 4 ideas or proposals to control the over population of elk.

“Right now, it’s a question. You have a lot of elk, a lot of people would say you need a large predator. We may not move forward with it, but right now it’s on the table,” said U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service planner Laurie Shannon.

Living up true to their form the animal rights groups and environmentalist groups are pushing for this proposal in a big way.

The USFW’s plans.

More info on this from the USFW.

This is just another excuse for the animals rights groups and feds to push their wolf agenda. A simple way to solve this problem would be to let us hunters into this particular area and control the over population of elk. If the Non-Native Canadian Gray Wolf is introduced into this area they will spread like a virus all over Colorado and eventually the surrounding states. We’re urging all hunters to voice your opinions on this issue and let them know that we won’t stand for this. – Hunters Against PETA

Utah’s Wolf Management Plan – The Non-Native Canadian And Mexican Gray Wolves

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources published this wolf management plan on September 20, 2011.

Here are some quotes from their plan:

“Is the DWR working to get wolves delisted across Utah?

Yes. The DWR will continue urging the USFWS to delist wolves statewide. DWR leadership, the
governor’s office and Utah’s congressional delegation have repeatedly requested that the federal
government transfer all wolf management to the state.”

“What about Mexican wolves?

The Mexican wolf is a unique subspecies that occurred in Mexico and parts of the southwestern
United States. Biologists have determined that the core population of Mexican wolves did not range
farther north than central Arizona and New Mexico. The DWR opposes any efforts to recover this
subspecies in Utah.”

“The DWR recognizes that unmanaged wolf populations may pose a serious threat to Utah’s wildlife. In nearby states — including Idaho, Montana and Wyoming — wildlife officials attribute some declines in their elk herds to the unchecked growth of wolf packs. The DWR wants to prevent a similar situation from occurring in Utah.”

The Utah DWR stated in the article that the USFWS has failed to comment on or approve their wolf management plan. Maybe the USFWS is waiting until the wolf population gets bigger in Utah before they’ll approve Utah’s plan? It’s good to see that the Utah DWR absolutely opposes the reintroduction of the Mexican Gray Wolf. – Hunters Against PETA
