Maryland House Bill 912 Strives To Give Dogs Same Rights As Humans

Monday, February 27th, 2012

This article was taken from the USSA’s website:

Maryland House Bill 912, sponsored by Delegate A. Wade Kach (R- Cockeysville), attempts to redefine the relationship between a dog and its owner. The bill deletes all references to dog ownership in current law and replaces those with dog guardianship language.  Under the bill, a person who has a dog will no longer be considered a dog “owner” but would instead be considered a dog “guardian.”

In other areas of law a person who is a “guardian” has an extremely high responsibility for the person in their care.

“Guardian language is intended to apply to people and not animals,” said Evan Heusinkveld, U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance director of state services. “HB 912 is the first step in elevating the legal status of animals to the same level as people.”

The bill could be interpreted to allow animal rights organizations to:

  • Use the “guardian” designation to force new, unreasonable standards of care on dog owners that go far above current laws;
  • Open the door for lawsuits against dog “guardians” on behalf of their dog; and
  • Use the new language to try and overturn well settled law that designates dogs as personal property.

“This bill isn’t about ensuring dogs are treated well. There are already laws on the books to do that,” said Heusinkveld.  “It is part of a broader, radical animal rights agenda meant to elevate all animals to person-hood status in the law. All sportsmen need to speak up and help stop this bill.”

A hearing has been schedule on the bill in Maryland’s House Committee on Environmental Matters on Thursday, March 1st at 1:00 p.m. The hearing will take place in Room 250 (second floor) of the House of Delegates in Annapolis.

Feds Shoot 14 Wolves In Northern Idaho

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

In an effort to save what’s left of the Lolo zone elk herd in northern Idaho. The feds finally took action and killed 14 wolves from helicopters. The Lolo zone has long been considered one of the best elk hunting areas in Idaho. That is until wolves entered the area.

Wolves are to blame for the severe decrease in the population of elk.

The Associated Press – Posted: 7:30am on Feb 23, 2012

“Recent studies by Fish and Game researchers now show wolves are the primary cause of death in female elk in the Lolo and of calves more than 6 months old. Researchers have said the habitat is capable of supporting far more than the 2,000 elk estimated to be in the area.”

“We’d like to see one of Idaho’s premier elk populations recover as much as possible,” said Jim Unsworth, deputy director of Fish and Game.

Hunters and trappers in Idaho have killed 318 wolves so far and the Lolo and Selway zone wolf hunts will continue until June of this year. Congrats to all of the successful wolf hunters in Idaho and Montana. – Hunters Against PETA

Animal Rights Groups Target ‘The North Face’ Company

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

Animal rights groups have recently set their sites on ‘The North Face’ company. They’re saying that the feathers they use in their jackets are from “force-fed geese” and of course in their minds “unethical.”

These geese are fattened up and their livers are sold to the public. It’s quite a popular dish in Europe and is called ‘pâté de foie gras.’ And is supposedly very tasty.

Being like most popular companies nowadays. The North Face company has given in to the animal rights group’s threats. The North Face has come out and said that they are now looking for a more “ethical way” to find geese feathers.

Here’s what The North Face published in a brochure back in 2010 saying about the feathers they use:

“At no time are the geese live-plucked for their down. Along with banning live-plucking, force feeding – for foie gras – has been banned in the supply chain of The North Face down material for many years.”

And here’s what PETA had to say: “There can be no justification for inflicting this kind of suffering when warm, cruelty-free synthetics are widely available.”

It’s pitiful to see big companies like this catering to the animal rights group’s demands and threats. All companies in America need to stop giving in to these animal rights groups. Their overall goal is total animal liberation. Here’s something to think about North Face. Animal rights groups will never stop bothering you until you stop using real geese feathers all together. People love your jackets because they have real geese feathers in them. Stop giving in to their threats. – Hunters Against PETA
